On June 7th, the Darbo-Worthington Neighborhood will celebrate its 5th Annual Block Party. Festivities will begin at 12 noon and it will be held at Worthington Park (at the intersection of Darbo and Rosemary). The sponsors of this year’s event are the Worthington Park Neighborhood Association (WPNA), The Salvation Army, the Joining Forces for Families Team (JFF) , the Madison Sable Flames (Madison Fire Department), and the Madison Police Department.
The Block Party was created by the people of Darbo-Worthington as a way to bring the racially diverse neighborhood together for food, music and games. Because many of the neighborhood’s children live below the poverty line, and their families do not have money for vacations and other excursions, the Block Party is a day where they can enjoy themselves and each other in a safe and positive environment.
To fund the Block Party, sponsors work together to reach out to community resources and area businesses. Madison Gas & Electric and Amcore Bank have been especially generous to Darbo-Worthington and continue to be partners with neighborhood. We also receive donations from Gardner’s Bakery and The Salvation Army.
